Vacation Day 2

Wilson Arch

Edge of the Ceders State Park

Hovenweep National Park

We left Green River and had breakfast in Moab. On the way out of Moab we stopped at Wilson Arch. The arch is named after the brother of one of Joe's relatives. The arch is not too far off the main road and we were able to climb up and get inside the arch.

Then in Blanding we stopped at the Edge of the Ceders State Park. We got to go down inside a Kiva. There is a very nice museum there.

Next stop was Hovenweep National Monument. The buildings are right on the edge of the canyon. You can walk around the canyon in about 2 hrs. We should have done the hike early in the morning. We were glad we had water and that there were benches to set on around the trail.

We had planned on going to some more of the Hovenweep ruins that were about 20 miles farther north. At the last minute we changed our mind and headed for Cortez Co. About 15 miles out of Cortez our car broke down. I began to pray that someone would come along that could help up. Two young men with a truck and pulling a car trailer stopped and helped us. They put our car onto their trailer and hauled us into Cortez. They dropped our car off at a dealership. Then they took us to a car rental place. The bad news was that both places were closed but there was a guy next to the rental place that was just getting ready to leave his carpet business. He took us inside and gave us a phone and a phone book and had us call until we found a place to get a car. (The airport had Budget rentals.) The lady came and picked us up. She told us where a good place to stay was at.

We found four wonderful people that helped us out.

In the morning we will go to the car dealership and see what they can do about our car.
