I hope the Internet stays up long enough for me to post. We had a great day. The car is fixed and we were able to head out. This first picture is Ute Mountain. It is not the best angle. On the right is the head of the Indian in his head dress. The high point are is arms folded across his chest. His body goes to the left. He was a great warrior. He laid down to rest and wears four different blankets during the year -- light green in the spring, dark green during the summer, yellows and oranges during the fall, and white during the winter.
We left Cortez and went to the Anasazi Heritage Museum in Dolores, Colorado. I enjoyed the walk up to the ruins. Next we drove over the continental divide to Montrose, CO. The mountains were beautiful.
In Montrose there is a museum I wanted to go to that told about Chief Ouray and his wife Chipeta. We got there a half hour after it closed. We walked around the grounds and read the signs there. It told how Chief Ouray took up farming, built a large house, filled it with white men's furniture, even had a piano, and a servant. He was in hopes that if he showed the government how he could change they would not put his people on a reservation. Sadly enough it did not work. I don't know where Chief Ouray is buried but Chipeta is buried on the farm in Montrose.
We will head home tomorrow.
